Jenson Button will join the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team as a Team Ambassador ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 season, the Silverstone-based outfit has confirmed.
The 2009 World Champion, who previously held a similar ambassadorial role with Williams, has signed a multi-year agreement that will see him support Aston Martin’s media, partner and commercial activities. The team described Button as bringing “a unique blend of credibility, global recognition and storytelling power” as Formula 1 heads into a transformative new era.
A World Champion With Deep F1 Roots
Button’s Formula 1 career spanned almost two decades, during which he raced for Williams, Benetton, Renault, BAR/Honda, Brawn GP and McLaren. Across 306 Grand Prix starts, he claimed 15 victories and famously secured the 2009 World Championship with Brawn GP in one of the sport’s most remarkable underdog stories.
After stepping away from F1, Button successfully transitioned into other categories, including Japan’s Super GT Championship, which he won with Honda. That connection adds further relevance to his new role, with Honda set to become Aston Martin’s works engine partner from 2026 onwards.
Reunion With Fernando Alonso
Button’s arrival will also see him reunite with Fernando Alonso, with whom he was team-mates at McLaren during the challenging 2015 and 2016 seasons. The pairing brings together two of the most experienced and respected figures of the modern F1 era, adding further gravitas to Aston Martin’s long-term project.
“Joining Aston Martin Aramco during such a transformative time in the team and the sport’s history is really exciting for me,” Button said.
“Honda’s new works partnership with the team was a huge draw and I look forward to bringing my years of experience working with them to my new role as ambassador.
“The 2026 season is going to be fascinating and being part of such an ambitious team is a real opportunity. I can’t wait for Melbourne!”
Building for Formula 1’s New Era
Aston Martin’s Managing Director of Commercial, Jefferson Slack, highlighted the significance of the appointment as the team prepares for the sweeping regulation changes coming in 2026.
“Jenson is one of the most respected figures in modern Formula 1 and we are delighted to welcome him to Aston Martin Aramco as Team Ambassador,” Slack said.
“He brings World Championship pedigree, deep experience with Honda, and an outstanding ability to connect with fans and partners around the world.
“As we enter the sport’s defining new era in 2026, Jenson’s insight and presence will be a valuable asset as we continue building this team for long-term success.”
For Aston Martin, Button’s appointment is another statement of intent — blending heritage, credibility and experience as the team looks to position itself as a genuine contender in Formula 1’s next chapter.
