F1 Cost Cap Calculator: Model Team Spending

Formula 1’s cost cap is not the same as a team’s complete annual budget.

The regulations limit defined Relevant Costs, while several major areas—such as driver remuneration, marketing and certain corporate expenses—are treated separately.

Use this calculator to model the regulated cap, planned Relevant Costs and the amount of spending headroom remaining in a hypothetical team scenario.

How to use the calculator

Enter the number of competitions in the season and any indexation adjustment you want to model.

You can then enter:

  • Relevant Costs already incurred
  • Committed future expenditure
  • A contingency reserve
  • Your preferred display currency

The calculator estimates the modelled cap, total planned Relevant Costs and remaining financial headroom.

What the calculator does not include

The calculator does not determine whether every expense qualifies as a Relevant Cost. It assumes that the amounts entered have already been classified correctly under the FIA Financial Regulations.

Use the separate F1 Cost Cap Inclusion Checker to explore how common expenses are generally treated.

Why a team’s total budget may be higher

Many costs sit outside the regulated Relevant Cost calculation. This means a team may operate a wider business with total expenditure exceeding the official cost-cap figure while still remaining compliant.

The exact treatment of an expense can depend on its purpose, the entity paying it, related-party arrangements and how shared costs are allocated.
