Santander and F1 Team Up to Champion Global Education Through Sport

In a bold move that blends the thrill of motorsport with the pursuit of lifelong learning, Santander—Formula 1’s Official Retail Banking Partner—has launched a new global campaign aimed at transforming access to education around the world.
At the heart of the campaign is Santander Open Academy, a global e-learning platform that offers free access to courses, expert-led learning content, and scholarship opportunities from leading universities and institutions. The initiative is open to anyone, regardless of age, location, or background, and covers a broad range of subjects, from business and finance to technology, languages, and leadership.
The campaign leverages Formula 1’s global platform and storytelling power to make education more visible and compelling, and to promote inclusive access to high-quality learning opportunities.
As part of the rollout, a brand-new online course titled High-Performance Leadership has been launched. Co-developed with former F1 World Champion Jenson Button and former Williams Racing Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams, the course is designed to equip learners with practical skills in leadership, communication, and decision-making—traits deeply embedded in the DNA of Formula 1.
“Education is the cornerstone of Formula 1,” said Ellen Jones, Head of ESG at Formula 1. “It is what we’re built on as a sport and is a key part of our work to encourage people from all backgrounds to consider a future in motorsport. It’s fantastic to see partners like Santander bring education inspired by F1 to a global community.”
Rafael Hernández, global deputy head of Santander Universidades, echoed the sentiment:
“Santander Open Academy exists to open doors. Whether you’re changing careers, returning to education, or simply expanding your skill set, we want to make learning more accessible—and more inspiring—for everyone. Working with Formula 1 allows us to reach new audiences and champion the value of education on a global stage.”
The campaign is supported by a mockumentary-style short film titled Life After F1, starring Jenson Button, which introduces the Santander Open Academy through light-hearted humour and storytelling. The video is set to roll out across Formula 1’s global digital platforms as part of a broader international awareness push.
