Oliver Oakes Resigns as Alpine Team Principal After Miami GP

In a surprising post-Miami Grand Prix development, Alpine have announced the immediate resignation of Team Principal Oliver Oakes. The Briton, who only joined the Enstone-based squad in July 2024, departs amid a challenging start to the 2025 season.

A former racing driver and founder of the Hitech Grand Prix team, Oakes was seen as a promising addition to Alpine’s leadership ranks. Under his guidance, the team finished the 2024 season strongly, clawing their way to sixth in the Constructors’ Championship. However, with Alpine languishing in ninth place this year—just a single point ahead of Kick Sauber—the pressure had clearly mounted.

In a statement released Tuesday, Alpine confirmed:

“BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as Team Principal. The team has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as Executive Advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.”

The team also expressed gratitude for Oakes’s contribution last season, but declined to comment further on the reasons behind his departure or on a possible replacement.

This marks yet another leadership change at Alpine in recent years. Oakes follows in the footsteps of Otmar Szafnauer and Bruno Famin—both of whom also exited the team principal role amid internal restructuring and performance concerns.

The shake-up comes as Alpine battles on-track issues and faces growing scrutiny over Jack Doohan’s performance. The Australian rookie crashed out on Lap 1 in Miami and remains without points in 2025.

With Briatore temporarily stepping in, all eyes will now turn to how Alpine restructures for the remainder of the season—and who they turn to as a long-term solution.
