F1 The Movie Earns Four Oscar Nominations

F1 The Movie has officially crossed another major milestone, picking up four Academy Award nominations ahead of the 2026 Oscars ceremony in Hollywood.
The prestigious event, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2026, will see the high-octane Formula 1 blockbuster recognised in the following categories:
- Best Picture
- Best Visual Effects
- Best Sound
- Best Film Editing
It’s a remarkable achievement for a movie that only hit cinemas last summer — and one that further underlines Formula 1’s growing influence beyond the racetrack.
From the Grid to the Red Carpet
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the same powerhouse duo behind Top Gun: Maverick, F1 The Movie was built with authenticity as its core mission.
The production team also included Brad Pitt and seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, whose involvement helped bridge the gap between Hollywood storytelling and real-world motorsport.
That commitment paid off — the film grossed over $630 million worldwide, making it one of the most successful sports films ever released.
A Story Rooted in F1 Reality
Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver tempted back into the sport for one final chapter. He joins forces with rising rookie Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, at the fictional APXGP team — seamlessly integrated alongside the sport’s real-world grid.
The movie was filmed during actual Grand Prix weekends, with bespoke cars running in F1 environments, delivering what many fans and drivers alike have called the most realistic racing film ever made.
Brad Pitt: “The Most Realistic Racing Movie Ever”
Speaking at the film’s launch, Pitt reflected on the long journey to bring the project to life:
“I’ve been trying to get a racing movie done for 20 years. I’ve tried bikes, I’ve tried cars, I’ve tried different disciplines — and they never came to fruition.
We got a great push behind us as Formula 1 kept growing, and that’s when Apple really came in to support us.
Where to Watch
Following its successful theatrical run, F1 The Movie is now available to stream globally on Apple TV, opening the door for a whole new wave of fans to experience Formula 1 through a cinematic lens.
