Verstappen Close to a Race Ban

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen ended off the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix in a disappointing 10th-place finish. This sees Verstappen sitting rather close to a one race ban, and with his current beef with Russell, I see it happening very soon

The reason for the lower than expected finish was due to a collision with George Russell at Turn 5.  Initially, Verstappen was instructed by Red Bull Racing to return the position to Russell due to an earlier misunderstanding about gaining an advantage by leaving the track—an incident later dismissed by race stewards as not intentional. However, the Dutch driver, frustrated by this directive, slowed significantly to let Russell pass before unexpectedly accelerating again, causing a collision. Race stewards reviewed the incident thoroughly, imposing a 10-second time penalty on Verstappen and adding three penalty points to his license, bringing him dangerously close to a race ban with a total of 11 points accrued in a 12-month period.

Another incident involving Charles Leclerc saw Verstappen narrowly avoid additional punishment. Both drivers collided mildly on the start-finish straight, but stewards concluded neither was predominantly at fault despite recognizing the situation’s potential severity.

With just one penalty point away from an automatic one-race suspension, Verstappen now faces intense scrutiny and pressure to maintain disciplined driving in upcoming races. As the season unfolds, every move Verstappen makes will be under the microscope, particularly with his championship aspirations potentially at stake.
