Jody Egginton Leaves Racing Bulls

Jody Egginton Swaps Racing Bulls for a New Challenge at Red Bull Advanced Technologies
After more than a decade of keeping Racing Bulls’ engineering ship steady, Jody Egginton has decided it’s time to swap Formula 1 stress for, well… a different kind of stress. The long-serving Technical Director will be moving upstairs—literally and figuratively—into the role of Engineering Director at Red Bull Advanced Technologies, effective April 1, 2025. No, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke—just a fresh start for one of F1’s most seasoned technical minds.
A Career Spanning Nearly Three Decades (and Plenty of Name Changes)
Egginton’s journey in Formula 1 began way back in 1996 with Tyrrell, a team that no longer exists but left its DNA in today’s Mercedes-AMG F1 squad. Over the years, he’s worked for teams that have changed names more often than a dodgy offshore company—from Midland to Spyker to Force India—before finding stability at the then-called Toro Rosso in 2014.
Climbing the ranks, he took on Head of Vehicle Performance, became Deputy Technical Director in 2017, and eventually claimed the top technical role in 2019. If there’s anyone who knows the ins and outs of Racing Bulls (or whatever they’ve been called over the years), it’s Egginton.
Racing Bulls’ New Technical Structure
With Egginton off to tackle Red Bull’s secretive Advanced Technologies projects (which may or may not include a Batmobile), Racing Bulls will fill the void with a committee-style approach.
- Tim Goss (Chief Technical Officer) will oversee operations
- Guillaume Cattelani (Deputy Technical Director, Car Performance) will make sure the car goes fast
- Andrea Landi (Deputy Technical Director, Car Design) will make sure it looks good while doing so
If anything, Racing Bulls are spreading the workload—or, as some might say, making sure no single person is too stressed to enjoy their coffee.
Egginton on His Next Move
Reflecting on his time with the team, Egginton admitted that while Formula 1 has been a wild ride, he’s ready for something different:
“Being part of this team for over 10 years has been a fantastic experience, providing some very memorable moments. But after almost 20 years of focusing solely on Formula 1, I feel it’s time for a change.”
“I will have a great remit as Engineering Director of Red Bull Advanced Technologies, and the company currently has an exciting list of projects—so I can’t wait to get started on this new challenge.”
Let’s just hope the projects involve fewer arguments about floor edges and sidepod designs.
Laurent Mekies: “Jody, You’ll Be Missed”
Racing Bulls Team Principal Laurent Mekies wasn’t about to let Egginton leave without some kind words:
“As our long-serving Technical Director, he has been instrumental in driving innovation and fostering team growth. I want to thank Jody for his expertise and the important contribution he has made to the team and the company’s upward trajectory. We wish him all the best for this new challenge within the Red Bull family.”
Mekies, however, did not confirm whether Egginton would still be allowed to borrow tools from the F1 garage once he’s working at Red Bull’s Advanced Technologies division.
The Next Chapter
Egginton’s departure marks another significant shift in Racing Bulls’ structure, while his new role at Red Bull Advanced Technologies could see him working on anything from hypercars to high-tech projects that make F1 cars look simple.
With Racing Bulls in the hands of its new technical leadership trio, and Egginton diving into new engineering adventures, the only question left is: will he finally get a desk with a window?
